For junk items, they give what you see in your inventory when you look at it. You don't have to break it down. The game accounts for it already. There is a perk, Scrapper, that gives you more and more stuff when you break down weapons and armor.
When you build, or craft, you use what's in your workshop's inventory, and when stuff is broken down, it is in their component parts. Say you have one of the alarm clocks, that gets broken down to it's components, all of them, and you only use what you need, not all of what's in there.

I have my scrapper perk max but i still find it belittling in hoe much u get half back. It dont makes since.thank you for the mods i will take alook at them. I just hope the geck/ CK or whatever they might call it now would fix the glitching xD.
