3) IMPORTANT – Make a backup of srFalloutStutterRemover.ini file and put it in a different directory. This is important because if the fix does not work for you, you will be able to go back to your default file for your previous settings. 3) Open up the.ini with Notepad or Notepad. 5 - Windows (Optional) Having a fast and stable system is absolutely necessary to run a heavily modded Fallout. If you have a high-end system, you should have nothing to worry about, even with all mods installed. But if you have a semi-old or medium-spec system (like myself), it will be put to the test, so you want to give Fallout: New Vegas the best possible conditions to get the most out of it.

I'm a huge Fallout fan, I was looking forward to playing 3 and New Vegas on my Laptop, cause I've put in a lot of hours on my Xbox 360 versions. However, I use Windows 7, I bet a lot of you do.First time around, trying to play New Vegas, I crashed after about 10 minutes of gameplay, or I would freeze. It really ticked me off, and I gave up after a while. That was till a close friend of mine got Fallout 3 and New Vegas for himself, and also uses Windows 7. Fallout 3 was giving him problems, so I decided to look into it more.Turns out there is an.ini fix that will help with the crashing for Windows 7 users. It may not fix it entirely, but it does help the crashing occur less often. And this fix also works for New Vegas.

It worked for me and my friend. What you've gotta do is go to Documents My Games Fallout3 (or FalloutNV for New Vegas)Find the.ini file in the folders. There's one called FalloutPrefs and one called Fallout. Open the one named Fallout in note pad. Before you do that, be sure to right click the file, go to Properties, and uncheck Read Only, or else you won't be able to save it.Now in the.ini file, press Ctrl+F and search for bUseThreadedAI. Once you find it you'll see is says bUseThreadedAI=0. Change that to bUseThreadedAI=1.Press Ctrl+F again, and find General.

Create a new line and add, iNumHWThreads=2.Now save it. Right click the file again, click on Properties and re-check Read Only, so Steam doesn't save over it.

And you should be done.Like I said, it may not fix the crashes entirely. But it does help them occur less often. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask me.

I hope I was able to help. Give thanks to my close friend too, he helped me out when I got a little confused. I'll have to try this when I get home.I'll get a CTD occasionally, but usually the game will simply stall out on loading a new area (especially around Freeside).I keep Process Explorer up on a second monitor, and the CPU usage for New Vegas will drop to 0% and stay there.

I have to kill the game, otherwise it will just sit on the loading screen. The weird part is when I reload. I'll use 'continue' and the game will stall.

I have to use 'load' to start the game. The next time the issue occurs, I'll use 'load' and the game will stall. Then I have to use 'continue' to load the game.Ah, the joys of PC gaming.
