Okay, so my friends and I are going to see the Gundam NT movie tomorrow. However, I know my friend has very little experience with Gundam UC (One has only watched bits and pieces of Wing and G, as well as all of Thunderbolt S1, and the other has no experience at all to my knowledge). So in an effort to educate him (as well as farm some karma while I'm at it), I have decided to write this SUPER CRASH COURSE in Gundam UC.Please note that I have not seen Gundam NT (except for the 1st 20 min on Youtube) so I may miss some major plot points because I didn't think they were that important.For those of you who know your UC history, I will skip the OVAs and whatnot for the sake of time.LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!!!!MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD OBVIOUSLYGundam NT Takes place in the Universal Century (UC) timeline of the Gundam Franchise. This is the main Gundam timeline. The Years are numbered UC 0001 UC 0002, etc. The Main story of Gundam starts in UC 0079.

Humanity has expanded to space and lives in space colonies (groups of Space colonies are called Sides ), developed asteroids, and cities on the Moon.In order to basically understand this timeline you need to know (For purposes of watching Gundam NT).5 Wars.3 Concepts.2 Important People3 Concepts. Concept #1: Earthnoids and SpacenoidsBasically whether you are born in space or on Earth itself. Born on Earth, you are an Earthnoid. Born in Space?

You're a Spacenoid. Important to note that Spacenoids are kept oppressed politically by Earthnoids, despite Spacenoids being more numerous in population. Concept #2: NewtypesNewtypes are the supposed next step of Human evolution.

They aren't clearly defined, but their powers can range from heightened spacial awareness, to sensing people's feelings, to Predicting the actual future. It is also implied that Newtypes have a sort of collective unconscious where they can sense each others' presence and feelings.There are artificially created Newtypes called Cyber Newtypes.

They are generally emotionally and mentally unstable due to the creation process being. Less than pleasant. Concept #3: Psyco FrameA relatively new technology that basically eliminates the barrier between man and machine. This enables Mobile Suit pilots to have extremely fast reaction times, among other things. The full extent of this technology is unknown, even to it's creators.5 WARSWar #1: The One Year War. (Associated Series: Mobile Suit Gundam). Takes place in UC 0079.

War between Zeon, a Side that was moving for autonomy, and the Federation, the governing Earth body. Eventually, the war for Freedom from the Federation turned into a call for genocide of Earthnoids. Zeon lost.IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT THE ONE YEAR WAR.A colony was dropped on the Earth as an attempt by Zeon to get the Federation to surrender.

The death toll was massive, and Sydney, Australia was wiped off the map.The Zabis (Singular: Zabi), the ruling family of Zeon, was wiped out, except for a small child, Mineva Lao ZabiWar #2: Gryps Conflict (Associated Series: Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam). Happens in UC 0087- UC 0088. A 'civil war' of the Federation. The two sides were the Titans, a kind of 'secret police' who were given the task of making sure no Zeon rebellions were to ever happen, and the Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG), a group that wanted to reform the corruption of the Federation, but turned into an armed military group.IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT THE GRYPS CONFLICT.An entire colony was killed by the Titans in order to quell a peaceful protest. This incident wasn't reported on during the Conflict due to the Titans strict media blackout.Neo Zeon the remnants of Zeon who didn't surrender, joined the Titans, then switched to the AEUG.War #3: 1st Neo Zeon Rebellion (Associated Series: Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam).

Happens in UC 0088 UC 0089. Neo Zeon, sensing the military and political weakness of both the Federation and the AEUG due to the Gryps Conflict, decided to take advantage and attempt a takeover of the Federation. Eventually, Neo Zeon split when a startup named Glemy Toto declared himself leader of Neo Zeon, instead of the then ruler Haman Karn. Eventually, both factions of Neo Zeon were defeated by the AEUG.IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT THE 1st NEO ZEON REBELLION.A colony is dropped on Dublin, causing massive loss of life.Both Glemy Toto and Haman Karn are killed in the final battle of this Rebellion.War #4: 2nd Neo Zeon Rebellion (Associated Series: Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack). Torchlight 2 mod install. Happens in UC 0093.

War between a revived Neo Zeon, and Londo Bell, a force meant to replace the former Titans. Char Aznable, a veteran of the One Year War and the Gryps Conflict, suddenly reemerges, declares himself ruler of Zeon, and wages war not only on the Federation, But on the idea of living on the Earth itself. To achieve this, Char attempts to drop an asteroid converted into a military base on the Earth. However, he is stopped by his longtime rival Amuro Ray.IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT THE 2nd NEO ZEON REBELLION:.Neo Zeon does not die here, but consolidates into an organization called the Sleeves.Char Aznable succeeded in dropping the asteroid. However, in an attempt to stop the asteroid, several mobile suits attempted to push the asteroid. Most significantly, the mobile suit of Amuro Ray, which was holding the cockpit module of Char Aznable. In an event called the Ring of Light, the psycoframe built into Amuro's Mobile Suit and the cockpit underwent an unknown reaction, which caused the asteroid to break away.Both Amuro and Char are declared MIA after the event.

However, it is implied that they died and their spirits went on into the afterlife.(?)War #5: the Laplace Incident (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn). Happens in UC 0096. War between Londo Bell and the Sleeves. During the initial creation of the Federation, and the Universal Century by extension, the Charter (aka Constitution basically) for the Federation included a clause that would allow Newtypes, and by extension Spacenoids, the ability to rule themselves. However, due to terrorism and political subterfuge, this clause was essentially erased from history. However, the Vist Foundation a group that has been in control of the Laplace's Box which supposedly contains the original charter that includes the clause about Newtype self rule, has decided to release the Box to the Sleeves.

The Sleeves hope to use this to start another rebellion create their own nation of colonies and cities on the moon, and then economically boycott the Federation. Mineva Lao Zabi, last heir to the former ruling Zeon family, sets out to stop this. I'm a Kamille stan, don't get me wrong, but Judau is pretty cool. He has a lightheartedness that was a fairly welcome breakup from the (justifiably) gloomy protagonists of the other series. I liked his character evolution over the series, it goes in time with with evolution of ZZ from campy to serious. He's pretty much fighting for his sister the entire time, which was endearing (his subsequent NewType freakout on Haman is still one of the most insane moments of the Gundam franchise).Have to repeat his punching of AEUG's Wong Lee (guy deserved it) and his piloting of ZZ/Gump into the Victory era.​.
